HEALTH AND SAFETY – POLICY ASSIGNMENT
(20% of final mark)
OBJECTIVE: To increase students’ awareness of H&S issues and their policies in the workplace and provide an opportunity to create a H&S policy from a template.
PROCEDURE: Student groups of up to 4 will research a specific topic randomly selected by the groups. Research will be from a minimum of 3 actual Canadian company web sites or internal documents you might have access to. From the examples gathered, you will create a policy and format it, using the template below.
Topics might include:
-violence/harassment/bullying in the workplace policy
-working alone policy
-no smoking policy
-fire safety policy
-lock/out tag/out policy
-machine guarding policy
-confined space policy
-WHMIS policy
-PPE policy

ASSIGNMENT OF POLICY ON HEALTH AND SAFETY
(20% of the final grade)
OBJECTIVE: To raise student understanding of workplace health and safety issues and policies, as well as providing an opportunity to design an H&S policy from a template.
PROCEDURE: Student groups of up to four will research a topic that they will choose at random. You will conduct research using at least three real Canadian corporate websites or internal papers that you have access to. You’ll write a policy and format it using the template below, based on the samples you’ve acquired.
The following are examples of possible topics:
-Policy on workplace violence, harassment, and bullying
-policy of working alone
-There is a no-smoking policy in place.
-Policy on fire safety
-Policy of lock/tag/out
-Policy on machine security
-policy on limited spaces
-WHMIS regulations
-Policy on personal protective equipment
