I think that these incidents created a need for revenge thus leading to the IRA’s and PLO’s cycles of violence. In my opinion, when the thirteen demonstrators were murdered by the British troops, the members of the civil rights movement got angry. They deemed it unfair that their people had been killed for just advocating for their rights. As a result, they saw it fit to fight back thus precipitating the increase in support for the IRA, which promoted violence against the British to force it to leave the Northern Ireland.

The IRA’s and PLO’s strategies and targets were not justifiable reactions to these incidents. This is because they did not solve anything; they only made matters worse. As each party retaliated to the other’s actions’ more lives were lost and more were put in danger. The best and effective strategy would have been for them to come together to make a truce. At least they would have tried to meet some of each other’s demands. This way, they would have prevented unnecessary killings.

In my view, the result would have been better in the Northern Ireland if the British government had reacted in a peaceful manner to the Irish Catholic’s imitation of the American civil rights movement. This is because the main goal of the Irish Catholics was to just prove a point; they did not mean for things to escalate to a point where people died. As such, the thirteen demonstrators would not have died. Furthermore, many Catholics would not have become radicalized and they would not have also joined the Republican Army. It should thus be noted that when people plan and engage in a demonstration, it does not necessarily mean that the authorities should respond violently towards them and neither should they get violent with one another. The best approach would have been for the British to respect the demonstrators’ rights to a peaceful demonstration since just like the African-Americans they deserved to enjoy rights such as better employment, and opportunity, access to housing and education.

The outcome that in my opinion I believe would have taken place if the Jordanian government had not reacted militarily to the presence of Palestinians in Jordan would be that the captors would have believed that they had gotten their way and succeeded in conveying the message they had intended to the world. Therefore, the world would be forced to put focus on the sufferings of the Palestinians. The hijackers took hostages to negotiate for the seven Palestinians who were radicals, and if Jordan had not gone ahead to declare war, then I am very sure the civil war that happened between the Jordanian army and the Palestinian forces would likely have not happened. I also believe that if the Jordanian government had not reacted militarily, the Palestinians would not have to the great extent of hijacking airliners. Moreover, much of the Palestinian fighters and leadership would not have been relocated to its Lebanese bases.

The world community would have responded by condemning the actions that led to the events in the strongest terms possible. The world community would have also put pressure on the necessary agencies to prosecute the troops that killed the demonstrators. Furthermore, pressures would have been put on the disagreeing parties to sit on a negotiating table to end the violence. Last but not least, the world community would have called upon for the rehabilitation of the members of the radical groups.
