Racial profiling increases scrutiny and surveillance on the subjected citizens because its principles that result in inequality. Members of the society or community that are subjected to racial profiling are vulnerable to the authority’s harassing instances that lead them to be alienated from the legal system and the whole society. Racial profiling causes subjected victims to overlook the intention of the policing agent and to focus on the senses of injustice and insecurity. Racial prejudice leads to stereotyping and cognitive bias hence fostering false assumptions that criminalize ethnic groups. Racial profiling in terrorism has only worsened the terrorism threats hence causing Islam phobia and discrimination. The ongoing terrorist attacks have led to anti-Muslim rhetoric hence fostering the rise of the right-wing extremist parties. Research shows that Muslims in various countries experience the proliferation where they are seen and treated and a foreign ethnic group. Muslim individuals from the Middle East are viewed as individuals who take part in the crime and pose threats to the nation.
On the ethical perspective, law enforcement and the police force must maintain the integrity that enables better management that is beneficial to cultures in the long run. Improving integrity requires the system to define their values and principles that can be in cooperated into the facets of operations. The inequities in the justice systems have led to disparities hence causing the arrests and prosecution of the racial groups like the African Americans and Latinos. The unconscious bias of the law towards people of color has also lead to shooting, deaths and numerous incarcerations. Raising awareness of the implicit bias among the police officer and leaders will allow a widespread understanding of the impact of such actions. The implicit of police bias can be introduced in the training to ensure that the police are aware of the injustice caused by issues of ethical and racial profiling. Dealing with law enforcement on racial profiling requires a transformation between the police and the community. Facilitating positive dialogues with the community will help create positive conditions when the police come into contact with the groups. Creating awareness allows the community and the policing system to understand the role that bias treatment plays in community-police relationships.
Societal opinion shapes the state of racial and ethnical profiling. The consequences of racial profiling can be dehumanizing and it violates basic human rights. Study shows that the culture also affects white individuals because they are inclined to associate criminal activities to the people of color. The prejudices of stereotyping are administered to the people of color at their young age hence abusing resistance of change in the individuals and community. The terrorist attacks in places like Brussels, Paris have led to the development of counterterrorism that has only led to an increase in ethnic profiling. For example, a Muslim passenger was reported to have been removed from a flight because he was reported by a fellow passenger for speaking Arabic in a way that was perceived as threatening. Racial profiling threatens the Islam culture because they are associated with terrorism hence facing discrimination from society just from practicing their culture. Raising awareness on the effects and racial profiling and providing training to police officers will lead long term cooperation that addresses the value and ethical benefits of stopping and thinking before confrontation to restore trust with the community and impact better societal perspectives.
