Leadership in Nursing
The provision of high-quality nursing care is dependent on leadership skills and concepts, and decision making. Additionally, they concepts are applicable and useful foe leaders when coordinating healthcare teams. Individuals are also more accountable to healthcare delivery and its oversight. Leadership in nursing involves providing support and direction, coordinating, motivating and advocating for optimal outcomes for patients. Hence, apt collaborative methods and team building, efficient skills in leadership and sound decisions ensure the safety of patients and services with better quality.
During interprofessional rounds, nurses and physicians ought to create a balance between authenticity and performance expectations. According to Giordano-Mulligan, (2017), nurses, being authentic leaders, are able to make decisions in moral dilemmas where the patient comes first. The ability is despite the constantly changing priorities and expectations of stakeholders in healthcare systems. Moreover, leadership in nursing is also demonstrated by having a global perspective. Nurse leaders effectively respond to the global healthcare trends and incorporate then in local, regional and national levels. Both are leadership concepts which ensure team coordination and accountability.
Further, establishing good working relationships is the major component of proper leadership in nursing. Solving team problems and adopting open door policies are strategies applicable to establishing teamwork and collaboration of nurses. The open-door policy involves a nurse leader listening to ideas and concerns, updating them on corporate changes and taking action to address raised concerns (Yoder, 2016). More so, solving problems among team members promotes harmony and increases the concentration on giving patients the necessary attention. The team, therefore, there is improved quality of services and assured patient safety as communication limits the occurrence of mistakes in health care systems. Thus, communication and problem solving in interprofessional teams is essential.
Therefore, leadership concepts in decision making, team building and collaboration in healthcare teams ensure provision of high-quality services and patient safety. Problem solving and open communication in interprofessional teams promote harmony in caregiving. Global perspectives and balancing between authenticity and expectations also support proper decision making. Leadership skills are essential in health care giving.
