Planning for a developmentally appropriate and responsive environment for infants and toddlers is critical to ensuring development across all learning domains. You will design an indoor environment, describe an indoor activity and adapt the indoor activity for an outdoor environment.

Select an age group:

– Younger Infant (Non-mobile)
– Older Infant (Mobile)
– Younger Toddler (Ages 1-2 years old)
– Older Toddler (Ages 2-3 years old)
Part One – Design an Indoor Environment for the chosen age group above.

Create a floor plan to meet the needs of the selected age group.
Label the furniture and large equipment.
Label stationary items such as windows, doorways, and shelving attached to walls.
Provide a list of developmentally appropriate materials and equipment for the selected age group.
Explain how this floor plan addresses specific state standards such as square footage requirements, group size for floor plan, infant-toddler to teacher ratio, etc.
Create the list to encompass at least four different areas of the environment and organize the list by area. Some areas may include dramatic play, sensory, large motor area, dramatic play, etc., but will vary by age group selected. Make sure the lists are thorough but include at least five appropriate materials/equipment.
Outline a daily routine/schedule that is developmentally appropriate for the selected age group.
Explain how this schedule supports responsive caregiving for your selected age group.
NOTE: This floor plan can be created digitally through platforms such as PowerPoint, or by using a floor plan creating program such as Kaplan at https://www.kaplanco.com/resources/floorplanner.asp or hand-drawn. If hand-drawn, the document must be able to be scanned/uploaded or a clear photo taken and uploaded to show detail and requirements. If it cannot be deciphered, it cannot be adequately graded.

Part Two – Create an Activity for Indoors

Create an activity for the selected age group that would be implemented in the indoor learning environment you just created.
Describe the activity and the steps needed to complete the activity with your selected age group as well as the materials needed, including how to introduce the activity to your selected age group.
Explain how this activity supports learning in the developmental domain(s).
Part Three – Adapt the Same Activity for Outdoors

Adapt the same indoor activity above for an outdoor learning experience.
What changes to the activity and materials need to be made to adapt the activity plan successfully?
Explain how this activity supports learning in the developmental domain(s).
Submit:

Floor plan – either an electronic document, image, or scanned document
Explanation document- includes the floor plan explanations, the indoor activity, and the adapted outdoor activity.
Professional presentation with accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation throughout.
