NURS 8210 WEEK 10 ASSIGNMENT
WEEK 10 ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS (DUE 11/7: MONDAY)
Assignment: Competencies
How do you determine what skills or qualities will benefit you as a leader in your healthcare organization or nursing practice?
This question might be answered through the analysis of nursing informatics competencies. The analysis of these competencies provides a context for the qualities needed to effectively lead and implement projects in your healthcare organization or nursing practice.
For this Assignment, complete the nursing informatics competency assessment survey to determine what skills you may or may not have acquired. Utilizing the assessment survey, you will explore the importance of these competencies in nursing practice, as well as in the implementation of nursing informatics projects in your practice.

According to the “Nursing Informatics: Scope and Standards of Practice” learning resource, there are several competencies that are relevant to nursing practice, including knowledge of informatics and healthcare technologies, ability to communicate and collaborate with others, ability to use data and information to support decision-making, and ability to ensure the privacy and security of health information.
In the context of project management and nursing informatics, some of the most beneficial competencies may include the ability to manage and coordinate projects, to effectively communicate with others, and to use data and information to support decision-making. These competencies can help nurses to effectively plan, execute, and evaluate projects, as well as to collaborate with others and make informed decisions that support patient care and improve outcomes.
In terms of my own skills, I currently possess some of the competencies related to project management and nursing informatics, such as the ability to communicate effectively and to use data and information to support decision-making. However, I may need to develop additional competencies in order to become more competent in these areas, such as the ability to manage and coordinate projects, to use healthcare technologies, and to ensure the privacy and security of health information.
To become more competent in these areas, I could seek out additional training and education, such as courses or workshops on project management or nursing informatics. I could also seek out opportunities to gain practical experience in these areas, such as by participating in relevant projects or working with experienced colleagues who can provide guidance and support. Additionally, I could continue to stay informed about developments and innovations in nursing informatics and project management, in order to stay up-to-date and knowledgeable in these areas.
