The critical assignment is the capstone assignment for this course (and the psychology program) and is designed to assess your overall understanding of the material presented throughout the psychology program. Success with the critical assignment will require your use of all the reading materials required through the course as well as the supplemental videos and instructor’s comments.
Please create an 18-slide Power Point presentation addressing your research topic. There should be 16 slides of text, plus a title slide and a reference slide. Each slide should contain 5-6 bullet points of content (complete sentences are not necessary, but the bullet points should each contain enough text to sufficiently communicate your thoughts). Each slide should contain examples and also visual graphics to enhance the presentation. It should also include a total of at least 7 peer-reviewed academic sources. These sources should be cited throughout the presentation in APA format and organized in an APA-formatted reference list. These sources can be the same sources you used in the literature review. Please follow the guidelines below to structure your presentation. The audience for this presentation is your choice. Please choose an audience appropriate to your topic and your upcoming career goals. Perhaps a church group? Parents of elementary school children? A particular support group at a hospital? The population does not need to be one that you have direct access to – just a population of your interest who could benefit from the information you have to share. Here is an overview of the 18 slides you will create:
Slide 1: title slide
Slide 2: introduction to your topic (5-6 bullet points discussing your topic, why it is important or how this presentation can be helpful; also some acknowledgment about your audience -who will benefit from this?)
Slides 3-4: lifespan development (5-6 bullet points per slide discussing how lifespan development explains your topic, examples of your topic from a developmental perspective, appropriate citations should be included)
Slides 5-6: either theories of personality or abnormal psychology (5-6 bullet points per slide discussing how either personality theories or abnormal psychology explains your topic, examples of your topic from one of these perspectives, appropriate citations should be included) Slides 7-8: cognitive psychology (5-6 bullet points per slide discussing how cognitive psychology explains your topic, examples of your topic from a cognitive perspective, appropriate citations should be included) Slides 9-10: psychophysiology (5-6 bullet points per slide discussing how psychophysiology explains your topic, examples of your topic from a cognitive perspective, appropriate citations should be included) Slides 11-12: faith integration (5-6 bullet points per slide discussing your personal ideas about how your topic fits/doesn’t fit with the Christian faith, how you believe your topic affects the Body of Christ; supporting verses should be included) Slides 13-14: cultural considerations (5-6 bullet points per slide discussing how your topic connects with various aspects of culture (ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, gender, religion, etc), examples of your topic interacting with cultural components, appropriate citations should be included) Slides 15-17: current research and implications (5-6 bullet points per slide discussing an overview of your literature review, you do not need to include all 10 articles from your lit review, but you should provide an overall summary here; implications of the research and ideas about how this information can be put to practical use should be included, appropriate citations should be included)
Slide 18: references
Your presentation should be in proper APA format (if you are unsure of APA formatting, please reference the materials provided in the Week 0 learning activity). Your presentation should include at least 7 peer-reviewed references, which should be cited throughout the slides. You are welcome to use any published journal articles or text books. Websites are not considered valid references in academic work. A great place to find peer-reviewed journal articles are the Social Sciences Full Text, Psych Articles Full Text, or Psych Info databases provided through the CBU library website: https://calbaptist.edu/library/databases/ A grading rubric is attached for your review:
