The population health concern I selected is the opioid crisis in the United States. The opioid crisis is a public health emergency that has been declared by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The crisis is characterized by an increase in the number of people who are addicted to opioids, as well as the number of people who are dying from opioid overdoses.

Factors That Contribute to the Crisis

There are a number of factors that contribute to the opioid crisis, including:

  • The overprescription of opioids by doctors
  • The availability of opioids on the black market
  • The lack of access to treatment for opioid addiction

Administrative Agenda Focus

The current administration has made the opioid crisis a top priority. The administration has taken a number of steps to address the crisis, including:
