The population health concern I selected is the opioid crisis in the United States. The opioid crisis is a public health emergency that has been declared by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The crisis is characterized by an increase in the number of people who are addicted to opioids, as well as the number of people who are dying from opioid overdoses.

Factors That Contribute to the Crisis

There are a number of factors that contribute to the opioid crisis, including:

• The overprescription of opioids by doctors
• The availability of opioids on the black market
• The lack of access to treatment for opioid addiction

Administrative Agenda Focus

The current administration has made the opioid crisis a top priority. The administration has taken a number of steps to address the crisis, including:

• Appointing a drug czar to lead the administration’s efforts to combat the crisis
• Increasing funding for treatment and prevention programs
• Cracking down on the illegal distribution of opioids

The previous two administrations also took steps to address the opioid crisis. The Obama administration declared the opioid crisis a public health emergency in 2017. The Trump administration continued the Obama administration’s efforts to address the crisis.

I think my selected healthcare issue (the opioid crisis) might get on the agenda for the current and two previous presidents by raising awareness about the crisis and its impact on communities across the country. I think it would stay on the agenda by continuing to raise awareness about the crisis and its impact, as well as by working to develop and implement effective solutions to the crisis.

Who Would You Choose to Be the Entrepreneur/Champion/Sponsor of the Healthcare Issue You Selected for the Current and Two Previous Presidents?

I would choose a person who has experience with the opioid crisis and who is passionate about addressing the crisis. I would also choose a person who has a strong network of contacts and who is able to build relationships with key stakeholders.
