Improving Human Resource Management Effectiveness at Acme Corporation

Human resource management (HRM) plays a critical role in organizational success by supporting strategic goals and enhancing employee performance. As the HR director at Acme Corporation, I have developed a multi-faceted HRM effectiveness improvement plan to strengthen our HR practices and better serve organizational needs. This plan draws upon analyses conducted over the past semester in my graduate program on HRM. It integrates revised components from previous course assignments and incorporates feedback from my instructor. The plan is organized using headings and subsections to provide structure. Its overarching aim is to optimize HRM effectiveness at Acme Corporation.
Current HRM Practices
Acme Corporation is a mid-sized manufacturing company with 500 employees across three facilities. Our current HRM practices focus on transactional activities like benefits administration, payroll, and compliance. However, these practices do not adequately support Acme’s strategic goals or maximize employee engagement. A review of employee satisfaction surveys from 2016 to the present revealed declining scores in areas like communication, career development opportunities, and work-life balance over this period (Smith, 2018). Interviews with department managers further highlighted needs for improved selection of high-potential candidates, development of leadership skills, and enhanced performance management. While Acme’s HRM department has competent staff, our practices have not evolved to meet the changing needs of our dynamic business environment.
Proposed HRM Effectiveness Improvements
To address these shortcomings, I propose the following multi-pronged HRM effectiveness improvement plan:
Strategic HRM Alignment

The first step is to align HRM strategy and goals with Acme’s overall business strategy. I will work with executive leadership to understand their 3-5 year strategic objectives and identify how the HRM department can support these aims. Specific HRM key performance indicators will then be established to track our impact on strategic goals.
Talent Acquisition Enhancements
Our talent acquisition process will be revamped to focus on identifying candidates with the skills and leadership potential needed to advance Acme’s strategy. I will implement a competency-based interviewing approach and evaluate candidates using assessment tools in addition to resumes and interviews. Our onboarding program will also be strengthened to quickly integrate new hires (Martin & Schmidt, 2010).
