Law Enforcement Codes
Both videos deal with real-life people, and they will test your ability to LISTEN/WATCH, use COMMON SENSE, and ASSESS/ANALYZE Facts. Don't overthink what's happening here.
One of these videos actually deals with the NYPD. While you may/may not know it, the NYPD is one of America's Top Law Enforcement Agencies, and it's respected in various parts of the world as a global leader in training and innovation. However, you also need to know that the NYPD is considered by many to be one of the most corrupt, brutal, and racist Law Enforcement Agencies in America. Can both of these statements be true? I'll leave that up to you to decide.
With that said...
While you're watching these two videos, please pay close attention to the 5 W's and 1 H (Who?, What?, Where?, When?, Why?, & How?), in order to grasp a firm understanding of exactly what happened in each situation... Both videos address Police Shooting Incidents, that bring into question race, training, discretion, and accountability.

Law Enforcement Codes
Law enforcement codes of conduct were enacted to guide law enforcement officers to dispatch their duties accordingly. However, there are instances of violations of these codes the officers. Law enforcement officials hold a position of public trust entrusted to them, protecting the lives of the public while enforcing laws (Manual, 2017). Desmond Robison was shot several times by Peter, who had mistaken him for a suspect. Luckily, he survived the shot but was left impaired. I believe Peter was biased before the shooting of Desmond based on his skin color. Numerous reports recount the increased broader discrimination against people of color who face blatant discrimination. According to statistics, Desmond was the 24th black cop who had suffered and nearly lost his life due to friendly fire from their white counterparts. While racism was not mentioned during the court proceedings, the jurors believed that Peter would not have been quick to act if Robinson had been white. Notably, his rushed decision to open fire was unjust and regarded as discrimination. If I were Desmond, I would have pushed for a jail term to serve as an example for others to exercise due diligence before acting.
Coronel Young Jnr was shot during an altercation with two other law enforcement officers in Providence, Rhode Island. The incident occurred when the two police officers Carlos Saraiva and Michael Sollitro, mistakenly shot him, thinking he was rushing to the aid of the suspects. However, the murder sparked outrage on allegations of racial profiling from family, friends, and the community. The law enforcement code of conduct guidelines provides that officers should be impartial (Manual, 2017); however, in this case, racial discrimination and excessive use of force are prominent. Notably, the response to the shoot was influenced by racial bias that led to the death of Coronel Young Jnr. The shooting would have been avoided had the officers taken time to inquire from Young of his identity before opening fire. Young would have been prompt to identify himself to the officers before the situation escalated.
