One famous example of observational learning is Bandura's Bobo doll experiment, in which children were observed to imitate aggressive behaviors they saw modeled by an adult toward a Bobo doll. This experiment demonstrated that exposure to aggressive behaviors can lead to an increase in aggressive behavior in children.
The negative effects of media violence have also been studied and linked to an increase in aggressive behavior in children. Research has found that exposure to violent media, such as video games, television shows, and movies, can increase aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This research has implications in the "real world" as it has been observed that children who regularly consume violent media tend to be more prone to engaging in aggressive behavior.
However, it is important to note that while media violence may have negative effects, it is just one factor among many that can contribute to aggressive behavior. Other factors, such as family dynamics, social environment, and individual characteristics, should also be considered.
In my personal observation, I have seen friends who regularly play violent video games exhibit more aggressive behavior compared to those who do not play such games. Additionally, I have also observed that children who are exposed to violent television shows and movies tend to become more desensitized to violence and aggressive behavior.
My advice to parents would be to be mindful of the media their children are exposed to and to limit or monitor their consumption of violent media. Instead, they can encourage their children to engage in media that promotes positive behaviors and values.
Classical conditioning involves the association between a naturally occurring stimulus (US) and a naturally occurring response (UR), leading to the eventual pairing of a previously neutral stimulus (CS) with the same response (CR). The components of classical conditioning are US, UR, CS, and CR.
One example of classical conditioning I experienced was during my time as a student. Whenever I heard the sound of a fire alarm, I would immediately experience a sense of fear and start to evacuate the building. The fire alarm (CS) was paired with the naturally occurring response of fear (CR) through its repeated association with a real fire (US) that elicited the fear response (UR).
