Institute of health improvement (IHI’s ) Model
Use the Institute of health improvement (IHI’s ) Model for Improvement (MFI) components to assess the project (project attached as PDF)
Not all quality improvement projects follow the IHI MFI. Perhaps the organization uses Lean or Six Sigma or a combination of these. Most of these steps will be done regardless of the quality model used. Includes the following headings:
1. Identify Changes: Describe the change(s) that were implemented. Were change ideas supported by literature?
2. Test the Changes: Describe the PDSA (plan, do, study, act) cycles that were conducted. If PDSA cycles are not evident, state that Find the Changes: Tell us about the change(s) that were made. Did literature back up the idea of change?
2. See if the changes work: Explain the plan, do, study, and act (PDSA) cycles that were used. If PDSA cycles aren't clear, you should say that
3. Implement Changes: Describe how changes were implemented
Critique: Note any policy changes that led the organization to focus on this project. If no policies were driving this project, what potential policies could you identify that would facilitate the success or failure of the project? What was done well, not done well? What would you have done differently? Was the project successful or not? Why? Have changes or improvemenbcits been sustained over time?
