Using the Internet, perform some research to learn about the organization and structure of two different city police departments. (I suggest researching two police departments different in size. Consider selecting one department from Utah and another department from another location, this will make it easier to see similarities and differences.)
Identify and discuss the organizational designs of two city police departments in a 1-2 page double-spaced paper. Create a Venn diagram to illustrate your findings. A Venn diagram, sometimes called a set diagram, is used to show the relationship between different entities or sets. Google Venn Diagram to learn more. Be sure to label each area on the diagram such as departments, divisions, titles, and overall structure of the police departments and comment on the different overlapping and non-overlapping areas of responsibility.

Police Department of Salt Lake City
The police structure in the Salt Lake City department, which is located in Utah, is located in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. The police department’s structure is divided into two bureaus. The structure is directed by the chief’s office. The Administrative Bureau and the Operation Bureau are the two police bureaus, each of which is led by a Deputy Chief Police. Furthermore, the bureaus are divided into six divisions. One of the structures is further subdivided into two sections: Pioneer Patrol (West) and Liberty Patrol (East). Other personnel, however, perform special operations, investigations, and other professional functions.
Police Department of Chicago
The Chicago Police Department is based in Chicago, Illinois. The police department is one of the largest in the United States. The Superintendent of Police leads the department, who is Helped by the First Deputy Superintendent. The superintendent is in charge of the four bureaus, and each bureau is led by the chief bureau. It is, however, further divided into 22 police districts, each of which is led by a commander. The commanders are responsible to the area deputy chief, who reports to the Bureau of Patrol Chief.
A Venn diagram
The Chicago Police Department is considered larger than the Salt Lake City Police Department. The police bureau and other officials such as police officers, chiefs, and lieutenants are examples of overlapping structures or functions between the two departments.
