Rollout Strategy
IT management is faced with new versions of operating systems such as Windows 10. Given the desire to minimize disruption and to control costs, how important is it for an enterprise to keep up with version changes in desktop operating systems for its users? What are the considerations for such an upgrade? Develop a strategy for a Fortune 1000 company and for a small firm to handle operating system upgrades.
The emergence of new operating systems brings about benefits for businesses especially the SMB type of businesses. Opportunities such as speed of operation may persuade firms and companies to upgrade to the emerging new operating systems. It is important to keep up with new released systems because the new technology and designs such as speed improvements may enable the companies to complete work faster hence better productivity (Hofman,2010). Also, the developers of new OS always aim to develop new features for their OS basing on the customers feedback. Therefore, new OS will always retain their previous versions for familiarity and improve the necessary features by fixing existing problems. The redesign foster ease of use and enhances compatibility with features such as video players or word processing. Old OS may also contain programs that may be cluttering up a computer hence slowing down the computer’s performance (Ray,2016). Upgrading the OS allows the computer to check for the necessary and unnecessary files and deleting the latter.
SMB’s and big companies should consider upgrading their operating system because it adds value to their business. An easy to use interface with compatibility is convenient to the business because it will allow a smooth and fast workflow. For example the new windows 10 have a simply designed start screen hence making it easier to navigate (Ray,2016). Also, new OS promotes security because it comes with enhances security features that prevent insecurities like hacks. Computer security is always on the wheel of improvement and continues to evolve to safer levels thus updating the OS is important to keep data safe. Small businesses and companies are provided with vast operating systems to choose from. Windows 10 is the latest and the most advanced in the market at the moment. However, companies like fortune 100 and small firms are required to be aware of the OS before upgrading. They should ensure that the OS can keep up with their productivity in terms of speed, compatibility, security and ease of use.
