Nonprofit organizations and philanthropy
there are two prompts that need to be adressed.
1. Nonprofit Organizations have been shaped by the historic, political, social, economic, and cultural contexts and changes in the country since its inception. Identify three key defining moments in US history for Nonprofits and explain how that has resulted in or affected the nonprofit landscape today. Consider both how these moments affected Nonprofits as well as the Nonprofit’s role in shaping these moments or events.
2. In his essay Wealth, Andrew Carnegie purported that “The man who dies thus rich dies disgraced”. Carnegie argued for the wealthy to be leaders in the administration of their funds (while alive) to ensure the best uses of their money for the best purposes, as defined by Carnegie. Philanthropy philosophies have evolved since Carnegie’s essay on its best uses, but the underlying administration of philanthropic wealth distribution has not changed much since the 1800s. Write an essay arguing the best role of philanthropy for Nonprofits in the future. Explain the evolving role of Philanthropy for Nonprofits, including Carnegie’s arguments and how that has changed or not, the role philanthropy plays for Nonprofits today, and what should be the future of philanthropy. Consider the role of philanthropy for Nonprofit resource management (endowments, gifts, and fundraising) as well as the way context may shape Philanthropy such as equity, tax law, philanthro-capitalism, and other contextual considerations.
