After reading this chapter, find a minimum of four additional articles; 2 each on 504 and
IEP. Write a double-spaced discussion paper following guidelines posted below. Make sure
to include the following in your paper:
• Define 504 and IEP
• Your experiences with both 504 and IEP as a parent, educator, and/or by-stander. •
How are students served under 504 compared to IEP?
• Analyze what you see as the benefits and pitfalls of both.
• Identify a perceived misconception from either side. (When doing this, list the actual
sentence(s) or portion of the sentence, citing the page number that you are referring
to, then write your response as to why you think it is a misconception. The key word
is “perceived.”
