According to Faubion(n.d), nursing accountability is defined as accepting responsibility for honest and ethical conduct in the interest of patients with diverse backgrounds and illnesses. Faubion further explains that nursing accountability is a practice where nurses use evidence based practices in conjunction with critical thinking and professional judgement in order to provide care that allows for patient outcomes that are beneficial.
I oversee isolation and quarantine periods for various illnesses as part of my daily work. There have been instances where counterparts have interpreted timetables differently. In such cases, I must be able to see the inaccuracy and present the proof necessary to either end or complete the appropriate quarantine or isolation period. By carrying out this responsibility, I hold myself and the team accountable, we act morally, and the patient will benefit from the results. By prematurely reintroducing patients into the environment, failing to follow the correct procedures in circumstances where the CDC has established guidelines could endanger the health of the general population.
