Deciding on Resources for a Project Team
The three major aspects to consider while determining resources for a project mainly include time, skills, and cost of conducting that particular project. If these three factors are well defined and appropriately managed, the success rate of the project is enhanced. Time, skills, and cost of a project also are essential factors in determining how project activities will be allocated to the staff members associated to ensure success. Staff members that are to be allocated different sections of a project may be either full time dedicated or part-time dedicated, depending on the role and their participation in the project. While planning for a project, it is important to determine whether to use full time or part time dedicated staffs.
In most cases, full-time dedicated staff is cost effective and they are expected to carry out all the processes involved in the project throughout the operational period. They may, however, require more time to complete the project and must be individuals with high professional skills. It is also possible to use part-time staff to conduct a project although they may be expensive than full-time staffs. Part-time staff is usually specialists for certain processes within the project and therefore their professionalism may be required at a certain point.
It is therefore advisable to use both full time and part time staff while conducting a project for assurance of perfect results. Both sets of staff play a major role during project management in ensuring that all the levels of project processes are effectively done and improvement of the performance of the entire project. Part-time staff help in improving the performance of a project in areas that require professionals while the full-time staff is useful in saving time and cost. Close monitoring and appropriate management if a project ensures excellence in activities allocated to staff members.
