Assessment – 2 Group project Worth 20% Analysis of Organizational Behavior
This task is designed to develop your ability to contribute fruitfully to a group task; assess an
organisational issue or problem as objectively as possible; appreciate the potential of theory in
managerial decision making and problem solving; apply theory to ‘real life’; take managerial
responsibility by designing a practical course of action.
You must submit your assignment online via Moodle (Turnitin software will be used to detect plagiarism
cases). Only one report from each group. The report MUST contain the name and ID numbers of all
group members. Please include the word count on the cover page and highlight the names of the group
members who were inactive/ not contactable/ didn’t contribute at all.
Task description:
1. This is a group assignment, and the lecturer will create and finalize assignment groups in week 3/4.
(4-5 members in each group).
2. Identify a problem (only one problem relating to OB) in an organisation that you have access to
(preferably an organisation where at least one group member works or has worked recently. Do not
focus on a problem that has already been solved and do not choose an organisation that is no longer in
business (cease to exist).
3. Provide a brief introduction to the organisation (it is acceptable to withhold the name of the
organisation).
4. Describe the problem, as much as possible in terms of the observable or measurable symptoms it
manifests, for example: low levels of motivation; high employee turnover; deterioration of service quality;
increased customer complaints; dysfunctional groups; loss of profit; negative/ unhelpful organisational
culture etc.
5 The issue/problem should then be considered and analysed in terms of concepts/ models/ theories
drawn from]|two different OB topics. Try to choose the topics that seem to offer the most useful insights
into the problem. Do not try to deal with many models or concepts. You must not select non-OB topics.
6. Design an intervention (a change program or set of activities and procedures) utilising some aspect
or aspects of your analysis. The intervention should be intended to solve or improve the situation. Please
note you are not merely being asked for a list of recommendations.
7. Prepare a report of 1800-2000 words (cover page, summary and the reference list is not included
in the word count). There are penalties for exceeding the word limit (1 mark). Late submission without
prior permission shall attract penalty @ 10% per day. Submit the report via Moodle on or before the due
date (only one report from a group submitted by any one group member). Your report must be
correctly and adequately referenced using APA/Harvard style. Please aim for a balanced range of
research from academic journal articles and popular media (such as podcasts, company websites,
practitioner publications, news items etc.). Use at least 8 academic references of which 5 must be from
peer-reviewed journal.

Analysis of Organizational Behavior: Addressing a Challenging Workplace Issue

Introduction:
In the realm of Organizational Behavior (OB), understanding and addressing issues within organizations are crucial for achieving sustainable success. This assessment aims to explore a problem encountered in a real-life organizational context and devise an intervention plan to rectify the situation. Through the application of OB theories and concepts, this analysis seeks to offer valuable insights into the identified problem, ultimately paving the way for an effective resolution.

Organizational Overview:
For the purpose of this assessment, a specific organization (whose name shall remain undisclosed) will serve as the backdrop for our analysis. This organization represents a dynamic and complex workplace environment, providing a rich context for examining the identified problem. It is essential to maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of the organization while undertaking this assessment.

Problem Description:
The focal point of this analysis lies within a significant issue that manifests observable or measurable symptoms within the organization. The problem could encompass a range of challenges, such as low employee motivation, high turnover rates, diminished service quality, increased customer complaints, dysfunctional group dynamics, financial losses, or a negative organizational culture. By carefully observing and examining these symptoms, we can gain valuable insights into the underlying issues and devise an appropriate intervention.

Application of OB Concepts and Theories:
To comprehend and address the identified problem, we will draw upon two OB topics that offer insightful frameworks and concepts. By selecting the most relevant and applicable theories, we can shed light on the root causes of the issue and propose a well-informed intervention. These theories will provide a lens through which we can understand the complexities of human behavior within the organizational context.

Designing an Intervention:
The ultimate objective of this analysis is to design a comprehensive intervention program that effectively resolves the identified problem. This intervention should consist of a set of activities, procedures, and strategies that align with the insights gleaned from the application of OB theories and concepts. It is crucial to note that the intervention should not be limited to a mere list of recommendations but should rather be a well-structured and practical plan of action.

Report Guidelines:
The final submission for this assessment should be a well-crafted report, containing approximately 1800-2000 words (excluding the cover page, summary, and reference list). It is imperative to adhere to the specified word count, as exceeding the limit will result in penalties. Additionally, please ensure the report is correctly and adequately referenced in accordance with the APA/Harvard style. A balanced range of research sources should be utilized, including a minimum of eight references, with at least five coming from peer-reviewed journals.

This group project provides an excellent opportunity to delve into the realm of Organizational Behavior, where the complex dynamics of human behavior intersect with organizational structures and processes. By skillfully applying OB theories and concepts, we can gain valuable insights into the identified problem and design a well-crafted intervention plan. This assessment not only hones our analytical skills but also equips us with the practical acumen needed to address organizational challenges in a managerial setting.
