To Prepare:
• Review the Resources and identify one change that you believe is called for in your organization/workplace.
o This may be a change necessary to effectively address one or more of the issues you addressed in the Workplace Environment Assessment you submitted in Module 4. It may also be a change in response to something not addressed in your previous efforts. It may be beneficial to discuss your ideas with your organizational leadership and/or colleagues to help identify and vet these ideas. This may be a necessary modification to effectively address one or more of the issues you discussed in Module 4’s Workplace Environment Assessment. It could also be a reaction to something that was not addressed in your prior efforts. To help identify and vet these ideas, it may be good to discuss them with your organizational leadership and/or coworkers.
• Reflect on how you might implement this change and how you might communicate this change to organizational leadership.

Summary of Results – Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory
5 2 3 4 4 4 3 2 4 3 4 3 4 5 2 4 3 3 4 5=71 Mildly Healthy
The assessment of my workplace was not surprising to me. My workplace tested at a 71 which is considered mildly healthy. The area that got the lowest scores are management and how they deal with issues in the workplace. Also, employee satisfaction is not the best in the specific area that I work in. There will always be grumbling around the workplace with people who are not happy, but some of the things that people are unhappy about are an easy fix. Getting management to listen to those complaints can be a feat.
Identify two things that surprised you about the results. Also identify one idea that you believed prior to conducting the Assessment that was confirmed. I was surprised that the number was so low. From my own perspective about things, I would have guessed it would have been a much higher number. I was also surprised that the level of trust is not as great as I guessed it to be. I feel that trust is something that is earned and to not have a great deal of trust in the workplace shocked me.
One idea that I believed prior to the assessment was employees are assets and are valued partners within the organization. This idea I believe to be true, and it was confirmed with my assessment. Not all workplaces value their employees and feel that they are assets. In my current place of employment, I feel that I am a true asset as well as my coworkers.
What do the results of the Assessment suggest about the health and civility of your workplace? These results to me show that my workplace needs work. There should be a higher level of respect, trust, and loyalty in my workplace. I feel that there are areas of my workplace that are thriving and some that are not. Management should put its employees first and I do not feel that is always the case. The workplace has room for improvement in the way that coworkers treat one another, and the way administration treats the staff. Changes are not allowed to be made due to one person always putting a stop to new ideas. When a person feels that there is no room for growth or opportunity at their workplace, they will explore other avenues.
Briefly describe the theory or concept presented in the article(s) you selected.
Explain how the theory or concept presented in the article(s) relates to the results of your Work Environment Assessment.
The concept that was presented in the article I read was that people can be more civil to one another in the workplace and the conversations that can promote that kind of positive behavior. This concept pointed out that there are ways to handle confrontation in the workplace and how to deal with challenging conversations that may come about. The guidance this gives, helps one to see that people want to be treated fairly and with respect. If a person is confronted about a situation at work and they feel they are being attacked, they will retaliate. If a person is being confronted about a situation and they feel they are on an even playing field and not vulnerable in the situation, the conversation will go much better and will be handled properly.
This concept relates to the work assessment that I completed in that it shows how people should be treated when problems arise in the workplace. When an employee has done something wrong in the workplace, he or she should be addressed in an environment where they feel safe. They should not be talked about by the staff and management. The issue should be private and handled by the parties involved. These ways of thinking will create a more positive work environment and would increase the number on my assessment a great deal.
Explain how your organization could apply the theory highlighted in your selected article(s) to improve organizational health and/or create stronger work teams. Be specific and provide examples. My organization could apply this theory to settle disputes or disagreements in the workplace. When there is a problem or situation that arises whether it be amongst the staff or between a staff member and a patient, this theory can be used to enable both parties to speak freely. The people involved would not feel as they are being attacked and the matter could be settled amicably without upsetting the individuals involved.
