Assignment: Emotional intelligence
Emotional intelligence is the topic of this assignment.

Individuals’ emotional intelligence, which refers to the abilities they posses that allow them to conceptualize and control their own emotional expressions, as well as the emotional expressions of those around them, is one of the factors that contribute to effective leadership. It is an essential component of effective leadership because it allows for more constructive communication to take place (Mind Tools Content Team, 2020). It removes any obstacles that might stand in the way of the effective transmission of information, such as the use of offensive tone of voice or words. It then contributes to the adequate resolution of issues that arise in organizations by enhancing rational analysis of the problem and the pursuit of amicable solutions. As a result, emotional intelligence helps to improve relationships between individuals in an organization, which in turn helps to foster teamwork.

A number of behavioral characteristics are associated with individuals who have a high level of self-awareness. These characteristics include the ability to maintain control over their emotions (Whitney, 2020). Highly self-aware leaders make certain that their emotional responses do not interfere with their interaction with others or with their ability to make sound decisions when dealing with situations that arise in their organizations (Whitney, 2018). Besides that, they are cognizant of their own strengths and weaknesses, as well as how this influences their interactions with others. When short-tempered leaders experience high levels of self-awareness, they recognize their vulnerability and the possibility that the vulnerability will interfere with them being able to manage employees effectively and make effective decision. As a result, they devise strategies for coping with their weaknesses while interacting with others. According to the Mind Tools Content Team (2020), leaders who have high levels of self-awareness and humility are more effective leaders. For example, they refrain from allowing their fleeting emotions to interfere with their organizational goals or their relationship with those under their command and control.
