Instructions
For this assignment, you must use a device with Wi-Fi capabilities to answer the following questions.
1. Move your device (computer, phone, tablet, etc.) around the room. How many Wi-Fi networks are in the area? What are the frequencies and signal strengths of the available networks?
2. What is an SSID? Why might you decide to hide an SSID?
3. Move to a different side of the building, go outside or walk 30 feet in one direction. Identify what changed when compared to item 1 above. Why might it be different or why might it be the same?
4. Try to find one or more access points. What is their proper name and acronym? What do they do? How do they connect to the Internet?
5. What is the typical number of channels for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz access points? Can you use each of those channels? Why or why not? Should you keep the same number for different channel numbers for access points that are close to each other?
6. Identify two popular Wi-Fi scanning tools. Describe what they report and measure. Why would you need to use them?
7. Create a table that identifies the typical range, frequency, throughput, any security features unique to the standard for 802.11 a, b, g, n, ac, and ad.
