Establishing classroom rules and routines help to optimize time for instruction and allows the learning environment to operate efficiently. I. Classroom Culture and Relationships

A cohesive foundation for my pre-K-Grade 3 classroom will be centered on creating a positive, nurturing and inclusive environment where all students feel valued, respected, and supported.

My desired classroom culture is one where students feel safe, comfortable and excited to learn. To achieve this, I will create an atmosphere where students feel welcome, respected and encouraged to express themselves. I will also establish a classroom community that promotes cooperation, kindness, and understanding.

To regularly communicate with families, I will schedule parent-teacher conferences at least twice a year to discuss their student’s classroom behavior and ability to meet set expectations. I will also send weekly newsletters to families to update them on classroom activities and share any concerns I have about their child’s behavior. I will make sure to keep families informed and involved in their child’s education by sending home weekly progress reports, and encouraging families to participate in classroom activities and events.

My role in supporting and engaging families and the community through respectful, reciprocal relationships will be to build strong partnerships with families and the community. I will involve families in decision-making and actively seek their input and feedback. I will also create opportunities for families to volunteer in the classroom and participate in community events.

II. Classroom Rules/Expectations and Procedures

To introduce and implement my classroom rules and procedures, I will first discuss them with my students and explain the reasoning behind each rule. I will also involve students in the creation of classroom procedures to ensure that they understand the importance of each step and feel invested in following them. I will post the rules and procedures in a prominent place in the classroom, and review them regularly with my students.

To discuss shared values and expectations with my students, I will create a classroom charter that outlines our shared values and expectations. I will involve students in the creation of this charter and use it as a reference throughout the year. I will also create opportunities for students to reflect on their behavior and how it relates to our shared values and expectations.

To ensure safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, I will teach students about internet safety and digital citizenship. I will also establish rules and procedures for the use of technology in the classroom and monitor students’ use of technology to ensure that it is appropriate and safe.

III. Student Behavior

To encourage good behavior, I will use positive reinforcement strategies such as verbal praise, stickers, and rewards. I will also provide opportunities for students to take on leadership roles and responsibilities in the classroom.

To prevent and manage misbehavior, I will use proactive strategies such as classroom rules, procedures, and clear expectations. I will also use positive discipline strategies such as redirecting behavior and providing choices. In cases of serious misbehavior, I will follow the school’s discipline policy and involve parents and administration as necessary.

I will support cognitive, social, and emotional development by providing opportunities for students to learn and practice social skills, such as sharing, taking turns, and resolving conflicts. I will also provide opportunities for students to express their emotions and feelings through art, music, and other forms of self-expression.
