While the term cloud computing was coined in 1996, healthcare institutions have embraced the concept to improve data storage and sharing.
• Implementing the policy in the healthcare environment will affect the data storage and sharing systems (Ali et al., 2018). The policy will require healthcare facilities to eliminate the use of manual patient records. It will improve the security of data due to the ability to encrypt and decrypt data.
• Cloud computing allows healthcare workers to access data collated from diverse sources. Another impact is sharing the data with practitioners, including physicians, nurses, and pharmacists (Gao & Sunyaev, 2019). For example, nurses and physicians can share the patient diagnosis with pharmacists for an accurate and efficient prescription. The technology will help informaticists collect data, analyze patient records, and improve medical research (Gao & Sunyaev, 2019). Cloud computing allows real-time sharing of patient data from diverse healthcare facilities. Sharing the data for research purposes improved evidence-based culture.
• Electronic health records is an essential policy before the introduction of cloud computing. The technology will allow healthcare workers to record patient data. Cloud computing helps store large amounts of data safely and efficiently (Ali et al., 2018). Security measures about the data collection protocols should be in place. Healthcare institutions should develop mechanisms on how to store and safeguard patient data. Encryption and decryption policies should be in place to foster patient data safety (Dang et al., 2019). The purpose is to enhance the smooth implementation of cloud computing technology in healthcare organizations.
