A review

Computer Sciences and Information Technology

The article by Blesson Varghese and Rajkumar Buyya is about the trends in cloud computing, next-generation cloud computing and research directions. The article is well organized, thus making it easier for the reader to skim through and understand the content of the article. The main objective of the article is to analyze the cloud infrastructure and the importance of decentralizing computing away from the information centres. The article also gives an overview of the challenges needed to be addressed before building the next generation of cloud systems. The introduction of the article contains background information about cloud computing. It explains how the new computing architectures have been emerging for years. The author states that the developed application leverage the cloud infrastructure by utilizing the heterogeneous resources from various resources. This article mostly targets the students, IT experts and hackers. Therefore, the main aim of this paper will be to provide a review of an article by Blesson Varghese and Rajkumar Buyya.
Infrastructure is an important element when it comes to cloud computing. This is because the service providers often acquire and manage the cloud infrastructure, thus enabling the business to focus their energy on business operations. The article how the changing infrastructure has contributed to its experts hosting the cloud application on data centres of various providers, thus making it easier to use (Varghese & Buyya, 2018). This is unlike the ancient days where the data centres had multiple providers, thus making it even harder to use. The main disadvantage of having a huge data centre is that a lot of energy is used to keep it operational. The article also states that the data centre could be far from the users, thus needing more data to be moved to another data centre. Transferring data from one data centre to another requires cloud infrastructure. From the article, the reader understands that cloud computing is a crucial aspect of cloud computing.
It is clear from the abstract that cloud computing has been evolving. The author states that the changed were underpinned by efforts towards realizing computing as a utility. This can be shown by the numerous providers and evolving cloud infrastructure that was only restricted to one provider in the information Centre. From the abstract, the reader gets a clear view of what the whole paper entails. The abstract also contains the objective of the article, thus making the reader understand what the article entails. Cloud computing systems are at times a complicated topic, but this book makes it easier to grasp the information about the cloud computing system. Difficult terminologies are well explained and illustrated.
Varghese & Buyya (2018) discusses the various types of multi-cloud offered by numerous providers. The types of multicoloured listed in the article are the hybrid cloud and federated cloud. The hybrid cloud is important as it is used when handling sensitive information such as personal data. For example, Varghese & Buyya, (2018) states that about 63% of the organization utilize the hybrid technology such as in health care and energy sectors. The article states that the main challenge encountered when establishing a hybrid cloud is encountering network problems. The importance of the federated cloud is that it brings together cloud providers. For instance, the federated cloud addresses the vendor lock-in problem in cases where the data is transferred from one place to another. The small businesses to expand their small business into larger businesses. The main challenge with this, as stated in the article, is that the larger companies may not be happy to federate with different suppliers, given that they have geologically spread assets.
Offering research findings increases the probability of persuading the reader to agree with the arguments made about cloud computing. The findings can be found in the research direction sections. This section includes how to guarantee a user enhanced security and how to achieve expressivity of apps in future. The findings comprise of the author’s claims and arguments and sources from other researchers as well. The research findings of the article also include an image to indicate the research direction presented in the paper. Varghese & Buyya (2018) recommends distributed applications developed by using the computing models on the changing infrastructure in future. The article also suggests that applications should have platforms and dialects, notwithstanding the well-known programming dialects. The importance of the platforms will be to facilitate serverless computing responsible for executing functions with limited latencies. Varghese & Buyya, (2018) in their recommendations include the libraries and algorithms to support the cloud architecture which do not support heavy software due to hardware constraints. The findings in the article help the reader to understand what the whole paper entails.
The structure of the article is abit unpolished. For instance, some sections, such as research directions appear almost at the end of the article. Some terms are complicated and hard to understand, and only readers who are good in computing can understand. The terms include SLAs and QoS (Varghese & Buyya, 2018). The paper also contains many details, thus making it more monotonous. It also makes it hard to skim and grasp all the content of the article. The writing style of the article is overstated and intellectualized instead of being communicative. There are also ambiguous statements which make it hard to understand what the article is all about. There is the repetition of some images. For instance, figure 2 is similar to figure 3, only the wording that has been changed. Repeating the same figures makes the article even more monotonous to read. There are some instances where (Varghese & Buyya, 2018) fails to show evidence to support their argument. For instance, they fail to illustrate how Elijah project is an example of the advances made in the cloudlet arena.
Overall, the article is well written with important information about the next-generation cloud computing systems. The piece is relevant to the modern world as technology keeps on evolving. It appears that the main goal of Blesson Varghese and Rajkumar Buyya was to persuade the reader on the trends which have resulted in new computing architecture that will be offered in the future. Readers, especially those in the field of computer science, have information which is crucial in their study. The article answers many questions that are not addressed in the field of cloud computing. The authors give their diplomatic information and an argument on the changing infrastructure in various data centres. The organization of the article is what makes the article even more interesting to read.
