Confidentiality as a Policy in Nursing Informatics
Informatics in nursing is the application of computer systems and information science in in translating, evaluating the core tools, developing health projects and implementing support in the health system. One of the polices that the medical practitioners are insisting on concerns the confidentiality in nursing informatics (Zhang, Lu & Li, 2021). Confidentiality involves the state of keeping information safe from unauthorized access. Nursing informatic confidentiality has a positive impact on implementing the informatic system since it helps in securing the data bases and the computers from unauthorized access.
Confidentiality as a policy in nursing informatics is a significant impact on clinical care services, how patients interact with health practitioners and health work operations. Concerning the clinical care services, one positive impact that confidentiality policy has is that it guarantees information security from outsiders and also people working in a health facility (Kokol, Saranto & Vošner, 2018). Another advantage that the confidentiality policy has on clinical care services is that it helps health practitioners while offering healthcare services to patients without any fear. Concerning the patients’ interactions in a health care center, confidentiality policy helps in securing patients’ information. Confidentiality of information enhances how a patient will open up during the treatment. In terms of health work operations, nursing informatic confidentiality ensures that health workers work carefully and become responsible whenever handling the informatics systems.
It is important for a health care organization to develop specific procedures that will address nursing informatics confidentiality. One of the approaches that my organization can implement is stating clearly what is expected from the health workers in my organization. Another approach is offering training on every health workers encountering with the informatics on how to handle the informatic systems and computers. Another approach that my health organization can implement is stating the consequences that a health worker will face if one interferes with the informatic systems. This approach will make the health workers to be more responsible while handling the nursing informatics.
