Critical Appraisal (Jean Watson’s Theory) Summary: Jean Watsons Theory of Human Caring is the College of Nursing theoretical framework. The purpose of this assignment is to offer students the opportunity to be exposed to Human Caring Science while providing students with the skills of critical appraisal of evidence. Directions: 1.The will student select one of the research articles from the list below that focuses on a study that used Jean Watsons Theory of Human Caring as a theoretical framework. 2.Students should use as a guide the appropriate Rapid Critical Appraisal Checklists found in Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt (2015) textbook on pages 539 to 550. 3.The critiques are to be informal, although correct grammar, spelling, etc. still are expected. The critique should include a brief description of the study that was reviewed and should address elements of the study relevant to critique.

While the objective of this project is to provide students with the opportunity to be exposed to Human Caring Science, it is also intended to equip them with the skills of critical appraisal of evidence. Directions: One of the research articles from the list below that focuses on a study that employed Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring as a theoretical framework will be chosen by the student to complete the assignment. 2.As a guide, students should refer to the appropriate Rapid Critical Appraisal Checklists, which may be found on pages 539 to 550 of the Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt (2015) textbook. 3.The critiques are to be informal, while proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation are still expected to be used. The critique should include a brief explanation of the study that was evaluated as well as specific points about the study that are important to the critique.
4.Students will provide a written critique on a critical appraisal of the elements relevant to the nature of the research study (Type of study, design, quality of the study, rationale, etc.) as well as implications for practice and further research and/or Assessment. 5.The grade will be based on accuracy, level of content and structure of the document. 6.The minimum length for this assignment is four pages, APA formatted, double-spaced with 1-inch margins and Times Roman font of 12 pts and a maximum of five pages.
