Summary
Type: Creative Writing

Topic: Discuss the social and/or cultural roots of white nationalism.
Subject: Sociology

Instructions
Prompt: Discuss the social and/or cultural roots of white nationalism.
Essay Formation:
Choose what you think is one or more crucial points from the current section of the course readings.
Present the point(s) in the form of a direct quote at the outset of the essay;
Establish your thesis statement,
Back up your argument using the readings from the current section of the course.
Sources & Citing:
You must make significant reference to all of the required readings from Weeks 1-5. That’s just 3 sources for this assignment (Dunbar-Ortiz, Cox & Andersen). If you do that and also include any one or more of the optional readings that will be awesome, but is not required. Please cite regardless of whether you are using a direct quote. Summaries of other people’s ideas must always be cited.
Use direct quotes sparingly – only when it is the case that if you summarized it into your own words something special and/or unique would be lost.
Outside sources are not okay because this is a test of your knowledge of the course readings.
Grading:
The primary basis of the grades focuses on your ability to indicate that you comprehend the readings assigned and class discussions. In this sense, this is an objective test. You are free to disagree with any/all parts of the assignment, but you must substantiate your points and it must be clear that you comprehend the readings and class discussions.
You must be careful to answer the prompt. While you have a lot of freedom to develop the essay as you like, you do need to engage the prompt directly and effectively.
All assignments are graded on their creativity and/or thoughtfulness, academic rigor, and quality of written or verbal presentation as designated.
