Write a few phrases you could say in the following scenarios:
1. A patient shares that his friend was addicted to cannabis and although he has a qualifying condition, is reluctant to use it because everyone he knows saw his friend as pothead.
2. You overhear another nurse conversing with a terminal, but coherent patient’s family member. The family member asks if medical cannabis is something they could try and shared that the patient is just too embarrassed to ask about it. The nurse responds, “absolutely not and I would be embarrassed too!” When the nurse exits the room, she shares what happened with you.
3. During a staff meeting, the unit manager makes it clear that nurses are not to talk to patients about cannabis because the organization doesn’t want to be seen as cannabis promotors. She also makes a comment that there’s just not enough research and no one knows where to begin. 2. You overhear another nurse conversing with a family member of a terminal but coherent patient. (Look at populational health concerns, such as opioid epidemic, quality of health, medication reconciliation, patient-provider trust, chronic diseases, etc.)
