DQ: Patient’s psychological and emotional need
Original discussion question: “Discuss how elimination
complexities can affect the lives of patients and their families.
Discuss the nurse’s role in supporting the patient’s psychological
and emotional needs. Provide an example.“
Original answer to discussion question: “When some complexities
are eliminated on a global scale,it can have a negative effect on
the life of patients and their families. This is especially the case
when the infection is still present but at very low levels. In this
case, the patient will normally exhibit resistance to different forms
of medication and in that instance, the infection will be prolonged
and hence the quality of life for the patient will decrease by a
large extent(Klepac, Metcalf, McLean, & Hampson, 2013).
Additionally, the family will suffer given the fact that the
prolonged infection will become a financial burden since they do
not have access to medication that works.
Nurses play a vital role in the process of providing psychological
and emotional support for the patient. In most cases, the nurses
are at the closest proximity to the sick and hence they are able to
develop a detailed understanding of the emotional needs of the
patient. That means that they will be able to address the needs in
a manner that is sufficient. Additionally, the nurses play the role of
cheerleaders for the patient who is in the process of recovering
