Terrorism
The meaning of terrorism has been an argumentative issue in policy formulation and academic discourse. This is because terrorism refers to a social construct that is described by the social context, and not an observable physical object. Besides, the term terrorism holds unlimited authority, especially in political affairs, reaching a point of degrading those referred to as terrorists. The scholars have come up with various complexities with the term in developing a worldwide accepted definition of terrorism. Despite these difficulties of defining the term, I define terrorism as the application of threats or violent ways to pursue social, religious, ideological, or political objectives by taking away the rights of innocent people.
Terrorism originated from the French term terrorisme, which means “dread” or “great fear” (Wilkinson, 9). The word is also associated with terrere that corresponds to “to frighten.” Terrorism affected French in 1793-1794, which is described as a reign of terror or “La Terreur” (Reign Of Terror 1). The French revolutionary leader then referred to terror as inflexible, severe, prompt, and justice. However, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, terrorism is defined as the unlawful use of intimidation and violence, mostly to civilians, in tracking down political goals. Terrorism was initially used in the English language to explain the actions of French revolutionaries in 1793 and 1794 acted domestically in aberrant executions. In the early 1790s, the term referred to as the intimidation by the government, whose goal was to overpower the France revolution. Therefore, terrorism created a general climate of fear for political goals.
In conclusion, terrorism mostly reflects on the general interest of the individual who is concentrating on its connotation. It is adopted on the political platform in different senses. Terrorism can be used in attacks and politics.
