ESE W2 633 Collaborative Relationship Transition D1

People who are in their natural routine of the day are soooo authentic in their behaviors and communication. Having experience learning about communication, both verbal and nonverbal, takes detailed analysis of your observations — When we start to watch others with a purpose or an end goal, our observations take on a new meaning! What a great opportunity to use these skills in the past that can inform your learning and work now. While you stated that you did not believe you were good at interpreting the nonverbal communication, you are likely better at it than you think! Subconsciously we can read these cues, however, it takes practice to be able to make sense of them — Keep practicing.

I believe that the way that others may perceive our communication depends on how it is displayed nonverbally. For example, in a job interview one must be confident in their body language. Even though the person may be nervous, uncomfortable, etc. they still have to be perceived as being confident and comfortable…We want to hire the best candidate, right? So, playing that part which in this case there is a disjoint between the verbal and nonverbals. I have participated in interview panel for many years and that is definitely one of the first impressions that are noticed. Have you had this type of experience? What did it feel like to you? Even if the person is nervous, uncomfortable, etc., they have to come across as confident and at ease… Don’t we want to hire the best person? So, when playing that part, there is a disconnect between what is said and what is done. I’ve been on interview panels for a long time, and that is one of the first things that people notice. Have you had something like this happen to you? What did it feel like to you?

Body language can be your key to greater success. It can help you develop positive business relationships, influence and motivate the people who report to you, improve productivity, bond with members of your team, and present your ideas with more impact.

What might be some strategies that you might suggest to those who do have those skills or knowledge?
