Explain the ethical approach concerning means and ends that you would apply if you had a role as the chief of police in your hometown.
The ethical approach regarding means and ends denotes to the supposed ethical principle of the ends justifying the means. In the system of criminal justice, the morality of means and ends denotes to the ethical utilization of power in various circumstances. The main objective of the criminal justice system is to ensure that crimes are prevented and this is attained by threatening criminals with various types of punishment (Audi, 2015). In this regard, a criminal justice professional should put his/her focus on offering social control and averting crimes. In some instances, the criminal justice professional is permitted to utilize bad means so as to achieve good ends. In fact, in the criminal justice of the U.S., the ends of justice fail to substantiate the means of attaining it. For instance, it is against the law to utilize violence in the form of torture towards suspected criminals.
As a professional in the criminal justice system, I will efficiently utilize the ethical approach regarding means and ends in my future practice. I am aware that I am not allowed to infringe the laws that pertain to criminal justice procedure. The moral approach will Help me to ensure that I engage in ethical conduct, overcoming any hindrances put by the system of criminal justice. I now know that I should tackle a conflict that exists between the means and ends of justice. As a professional in the criminal justice, I am obligated to the means of justice that is embodied in law. Similarly, I am obliged to the ends of justice that offers social security. As such, I am required to focus on the dignified cause in my conduct and decisions, doing good to all people in the community that I live in.
