Section One: Introduction
1.You are responsible for the care of a preterm newborn in the NICU. Your baby’s NICU team is on its way to see him or her. The baby was delivered at 28 6/7 weeks and is currently at 33 weeks of pregnancy. The mother has been inquiring as to when the infant will be able to feed himself or herself through a nipple. Explain in detail the stages of sucking and swallowing, as well as the gestational age that is used as a reference point for when to begin feedings.
2.In a postnatal assessment, what are the three most important symptoms of gastrointestinal blockage in a newborn?
Your pregnancy is being complicated by the presence of a premature infant with a large, tense abdomen. Since yesterday, there has been a 4cm increase in abdominal circumference. It is hypoactive in terms of the bowel noises. There are clearly visible bowel loops that can be seen in this image. The doctor is concerned about the possibility of a perforation of the bowel. The physician would order this test in order to determine whether there is any free air in the peritoneal cavity. And how does this examination come to a close?
4.You are looking for physician instructions, and you discover that the doctor has ordered an Apt test, what now? What is the purpose of this test, what does the doctor look for, and how is the result communicated?
Five. Why is Gastric Decompression used, and how is it carried out?
6.What is Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC) and how does it manifest itself? Please provide specifics such as an Assessment of the patient’s risk factors and diagnosis. What are surgical procedures in NEC and why would they be used?
7.PAIN Pain is real, even in the NICU, believe it or not. Choose a pain scale from page 278, include the pain scale in your answer, and examine the scale, including whether or not you believe it would be effective for a child in need of pain relief.
