GLOBAL HEALTHCARE COMPARISON MATRIX AND NARRATIVE STATEMENT. If you talk about a possible poor health outcome, do you believe that outcome will occur? Do you believe eye contact and personal contact should be avoided?
You would have a difficult time practicing as a nurse if you believed these to be true. But they are very real beliefs in some cultures.
Differences in cultural beliefs, subcultures, religion, ethnic customs, dietary customs, language, and a host of other factors contribute to the complex environment that surrounds global healthcare issues. Failure to understand and account for these differences can create a gulf between practitioners and the public they serve.
In this Assignment, you will examine a global health issue and consider the approach to this issue by the United States and by one other country.
To Prepare:
Review the World Health Organization’s (WHO) global health agenda and select one global health issue to focus on for this Assignment.
Select at least one additional country to compare to the U.S. for this Assignment.
Reflect on how the global health issue you selected is approached in the U.S. and in the additional country you selected.
Review and download the Global Health Comparison Matrix provided in the Resources.
The Assignment: (1- to 2-page Global Health Comparison Matrix; 1-page Plan for Social Change)
Part 1: Global Health Comparison Matrix
Focusing on the country you selected and the U.S., complete the Global Health Comparison Matrix. Be sure to address the following:
Consider the U.S. national/federal health policies that have been adapted for the global health issue you selected from the WHO global health agenda. Compare these policies to the additional country you selected for study.
Explain the strengths and weaknesses of each policy.
Explain how the social determinants of health may impact the global health issue you selected. Be specific and provide examples.
Using the WHO’s Organization’s global health agenda as well as the results of your own research, analyze how each country’s government addresses cost, quality, and access to the global health issue selected.
Explain how the health policy you selected might impact the health of the global population. Be specific and provide examples.
Explain how the health policy you selected might impact the role of the nurse in each country.
Explain how global health issues impact local healthcare organizations and policies in both countries. Be specific and provide examples.
Part 2: A Plan for Social Change
Reflect on the global health policy comparison and analysis you conducted in Part 1 of the Assignment and the impact that global health issues may have on the world, the U.S., your community, as well as your practice as a nurse leader.
In a 1-page response, create a plan for social change that incorporates a global perspective or lens into your local practice and role as a nurse leader.
Explain how you would advocate for the incorporation of a global perspective or lens into your local practice and role as a nurse leader.
Explain how the incorporation of a global perspective or lens might impact your local practice and role as a nurse leader.
Explain how the incorporation of a global perspective or lens into your local practice as a nurse leader represents and contributes to social change. Be specific and provide examples

Digital transformation in healthcare provision refers to the integration of technology and digital tools into healthcare services and processes. This transformation is aimed at improving the quality, efficiency, and accessibility of healthcare services. Some of the key benefits of digital transformation in healthcare include:
Improved patient outcomes: Digital tools, such as telemedicine and electronic health records (EHRs), help healthcare providers to collect, store, and analyze patient data, leading to better diagnosis and treatment plans.
Increased efficiency: By automating administrative tasks, such as appointment scheduling and prescription refills, digital transformation can help healthcare providers to save time and improve the overall efficiency of their practices.
Increased accessibility: Digital tools, such as telemedicine and online portals, allow patients to access healthcare services from the comfort of their own homes, reducing the need for in-person visits and making healthcare more accessible to underserved populations.
Improved data management: Digital transformation in healthcare enables the centralization and standardization of patient data, reducing the risk of errors and improving the accuracy of diagnoses and treatments.
Better population health management: With access to large amounts of data, healthcare providers can gain a deeper understanding of population health patterns, which can inform the development of effective prevention and management programs.
To realize the full benefits of digital transformation in healthcare, it is important for healthcare providers to implement these tools and technologies in a strategic and well-coordinated manner. This often requires significant investments in training and infrastructure, but can ultimately lead to improved patient outcomes and a more sustainable healthcare system.

Sample Answer Guide:
The approach to a global health issue in the U.S. and another country can vary greatly. It’s important to consider the cultural, social, and economic factors that influence health policies in each country. By examining the policies of the U.S. and another country, one can gain insight into the strengths and weaknesses of each approach.
For example, if the selected global health issue is access to healthcare, the U.S. might have national policies aimed at improving access to healthcare services through programs such as Medicaid or the Affordable Care Act. The selected additional country might have a single-payer system, which provides universal access to healthcare services, funded through taxes. The strengths of the U.S. approach might include a focus on individual responsibility and the development of private-sector solutions, while the weaknesses might include unequal access to healthcare services and the high cost of healthcare. The strengths of the other country’s approach might include universal access to healthcare services and lower healthcare costs, while the weaknesses might include limited choice and reduced innovation in healthcare delivery.
The social determinants of health, such as income, education, and social support, can impact the global health issue selected. For example, access to healthcare services may be limited for individuals living in poverty or in rural areas. The role of the nurse in each country will also be impacted by the health policy selected, as the policies can shape the nurse’s responsibilities and available resources.
To incorporate a global perspective into local practice and role as a nurse leader, one might advocate for a greater awareness of global health issues and their impact on local communities. This can be achieved through education and training programs that promote cultural competence and global awareness. By incorporating a global perspective, the nurse leader can contribute to social change by promoting equitable access to healthcare services, improving health outcomes for all individuals, and fostering collaboration between healthcare organizations globally.
