As we have moved into globalization of communication, technology, and information, Health Information Systems need to reflect what is happening to ensure optimal use of clinical information.
Create a roadmap that discusses the role of health information systems in health care related to improving patient outcomes. Describe how health information systems and applications can help improve the delivery of health care. In your discussion, be sure to describe common advantages and disadvantages of using health information systems. Include reference to literature, expert opinion, and case examples from your research involving various health care disciplines to support your position, key points, and explanations.
Provide references from at least 3 scholarly articles
Your response should be based on reliable and scholarly material, such as peer-reviewed articles, white papers, technical papers, etc. Do not include information from non-scholarly materials such as wikis, encyclopedias, or www.freearticles.com (or similar websites).

Health Information System Roadmap
Abstract
Health information systems (HIS) have come a long way in the development of the healthcare sector. It has the impact of reducing the healthcare costs while improving outcomes. In lower and mid-income countries the need for reliable and affordable medical record software is quite paramount
. It supports the recording of data such that healthcare practitioners can analyze it and use it in the implementation of policies as well as better treat and prevent the spread of diseases. This paper discusses how the health information systems improve the delivery of healthcare as well as the common advantages and disadvantages of using HIS.

Introduction
A HIS is a system that is designed to gather, store, manage and transmit patient and hospital data to practitioners to allow them make informed decisions regarding all aspects of patient care. These may include patient safety, education, equity, communication as well as quality of service.
Review of Literature
The future of Healthcare lies in individual ability to properly integrate IT towards bringing forth an effective and insightful system (Fichman, Kohli & Krishnan, 2011). Town, Parente, & McCullough also allude that technology has been infact used in the detection of impending outcomes even before they happen thus allowing practitioners to prevent their spread into a pandemic (2013). It is thus important to enlist the use of information systems especially in technology as it is bound to bring for a miriyard of benefits.
Benefits of using HIS
Information is power. With an efficient HIS, the quality of healthcare is bound to improve. Information systems mainly improve the quality of patient care. In addition to this, they allow for cost control, increase accuracy and timelines of patient care, it also improves the service capacity towards patients and also provide an avenue for data sourcing for research and education on matters concerning healthcare.
Demerits of using HIS
Since this data is collected in order for it to be used in research and development of better medical structures. It offers the risk for potential security and privacy issues (Eysenbach, 2018). HIS as much as any other computer network is vulnerable to hacking. As HIS relies on patient data which changes over the course of a patient’s illness cycle, it offers the issue of having to always update information or risk having inaccurate data on the system. Malpractice may occur sometimes brings forth to the HIS liability concerns.
Methods
If one was to focus on the benefits that having an information system has brought to hospitals and medical research institutions one can clearly see how they are enjoying the benefits of it. This research can be done thought interviews as well as observations
Discussion
HIS has been applied in the prevention and identification of patient safety and quality issues. Aside from this, implementation has been seen to produce positive results. The study can be associated with the use of electronic health records and how the impact of its use has revolutionized the way healthcare is being done.
Conclusion
Research concerning the benefits of implementation of health information systems provides a platform for decision support with regard to implementation of HIS. IT serves the benefit of improving the quality of life as well as putting forth structures to better improve the healthcare profession.
