Interpretation of how the readings apply to the profession of nursing
There is simply a lot to learn within the nursing profession, and as such, one is expected to read a huge volume of materials on a regular basis. In this case, most of the materials in our reading this week, i.e., the articles by rwfj.org, ncbi, New City College of Technology and pubmed focus on patient safety. They put emphasis on the need to improve patient safety in healthcare facilities. As such, the readings apply to the profession of nursing in that they highlight some of the factors that put the safety of patients at risk and seek to equip nurses with the knowledge and skills that they can use to ensure patient safety. Of all the healthcare team members, nurses play a seriously vital part in ensuring patient safety by checking patients for clinical deterioration, identifying errors, comprehending the processes of care and limitations innate in a number of systems, and carrying out innumerable other duties to make sure that patients get high-quality care.
In addition to discussing patient safety, the article by QSEN talks about patient-centered care, team work collaboration, evidence-based practice (EBP), quality improvement and informatics. All these topics are applicable to the nursing profession. For instance, nurses are expected to provide patient-centered care as this enables patients to play an active role in their care, learn good habits and how to care for themselves. With regard to teamwork collaboration, it is important to note that nurses are part of the healthcare team, and therefore, the article seeks to equip nurses with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to become effective members of a team, which can, in turn, improve the overall patient outcomes.
