Case 1 – Nice Spice Company
Due – submit in Sakai Assignments Folder: 8 am 9/17
30 Points

Read the mini case on Nice Spice Company located in the Module 2, Part A files directory folder.

Your task is to (READ CAREFULLY):

1) Identify and describe the firm’s business strategy using the method described in the video and strategy template. *!* Follow the order/structure of the template and use the terms explicitly. You need not write extensively for this part – just list the component elements and describe then for the firm.
2) Assess Nice Spice Company’s financial performance to evaluate their status in achieving sustained competitive advantage. Create an Excel spreadsheet for your analysis and insert this into your Word document. Describe their performance on each relevant dimension of the process from the lesson and argue your final conclusion.

For this and all case memos/reports:

*Be, and communicate, as an ANALYST not a REPORTER.
– DO: Provide a structure to your memo (use headers and not just long uninterrupted text)
– DO: Use the terms from the course/templates
– DO: Ensure you provide adequate detail to explain your answers/conclusions. Be careful with being too
brief and giving simple bullet-point answers that cannot be accurately interpreted
– DO: Make and support an argument for conclusions – explain why; provide and refer to the underlying
data/analysis that led you to your conclusion

– DON’T tell me what is in the case reading. I’ve already studied it!
– Don’t tell me what other people have said or concluded. I want to know YOUR analysis and
conclusions.
– Don’t tell me things I already know (like definitions, methods, purpose, etc.)
– Don’t tell me things irrelevant to the specific task of the memo (history of the firm, how they got to
where they are, etc.)

Format for all cases, unless stated otherwise: Please be sure you put your name and a title on the document. Cover pages are unnecessary- please don’t use. Microsoft Word document. Single-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font; 1” Margins all sides. Strive for a crisp, clear, and complete presentation – what any boss would want to receive (i.e. organize it for a quick read and don’t include a bunch of filler/non-essential info).
