Acute pain is typically a temporary and short-term pain that is associated with an injury, surgery, or illness. It typically lasts for a few days to weeks and often resolves once the underlying cause of the pain is treated. Chronic pain, on the other hand, is persistent and long-lasting, lasting for months or even years. It is often associated with conditions such as arthritis, neuropathy, or fibromyalgia, and may not have an identifiable cause.

The clinical manifestations of acute pain include sharp, intense pain that is localized to a specific area. Patients may also experience inflammation, redness, and swelling in the affected area. Acute pain may also cause changes in vital signs, such as increased heart rate and blood pressure. Etiologies of acute pain may include trauma, surgery, or medical conditions such as infections or inflammation.
