Scientific Foundations
Scientific foundations competency ensures nurse practitioner graduates acquire appropriate knowledge for evidence-based practice. The knowledge involves pharmacology and pathophysiology, clinical practice guidelines, and translating research into practice (Pulcini et al., 2019). Scientific foundations skills encourage evidence-based practice promoting patient safety and cultural competency.
Leadership
Leadership competency in nursing involves decision-making, problem-solving, communication, advocacy, and scholarship. Nurse practitioners must understand the scope and standards of practice. Leadership competency will help me to carry out community health programs with a view of the challenges focusing on quality outcomes (Surjadi et al., 2019). Leadership is necessary due to the diverse population of patients. Communications skills are core elements in the delivery of care.
Quality
Quality competency involves improving the quality of patient outcomes consistent with knowledge. Professional knowledge improves the capacity to provide safe and efficient care (Pulcini et al., 2019). I must utilize nursing skills to prevent medical errors that can undermine patient recovery.
Practice Inquiry
Practice inquiry involves asking questions, identifying evidence-based practice, and determining the practice change required. I will use the practice inquiry to determine how research outcomes can be used to improve the quality of patient outcomes (Surjadi et al., 2019). Practice inquiry investigates the current state of care and the gaps present limiting ideal care.
Technology and Information Literacy
Digital technology and communication tools are effective in promoting quality patient care. Nurse practitioners should use technology to improve patient care. For instance, decision support systems and telehealth are effective technological tools to boost the quality of care (Surjadi et al., 2019). Information literacy involves educating the community to improve public health. Information literacy promotes healthy decision-making and an appropriate lifestyle to prevent poor health outcomes.
Policy
Policies in the nursing field address specific issues affecting the delivery of care. The policy is effective in addressing discrimination and cost inequality in the delivery of care. Nurse practitioners should help in creating more policies to improve quality care (Pulcini et al., 2019). Advocacy is effective in ensuring nurses provide care to all communities equally.
Health Delivery System
Health delivery systems comprise organizations, institutions, and resources effective for meeting the health needs of the target population (Pulcini et al., 2019). It helps nurse practitioners to identify effective ways of resource allocation. I will use the knowledge to identify available gaps and appropriate interventions.
Ethics
Ethical practice is core to the delivery of care to diverse patients. It involves principles for decision-making such as informed consent, justice and fairness, and beneficence (Pulcini et al., 2019). I will use the knowledge to ensure patient information is private and confidential.
Independent Practice
The law stipulates that nurse practitioners who attain the required threshold of training and experience can practice independently (Pulcini et al., 2019). Independent practice involves accountability for the decisions made during the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Requirements for independent practice vary from one state to another.
Social Change in the Community
I will engage in social change in the community to achieve equality in the healthcare sector. The focus is to encourage the community to eliminate barriers that can impede quality care. The community in my state is experiencing challenges relating to inequality. The challenges can undermine the quality of care. I will strive to advocate for change to improve the quality of outcomes. For instance, I will write a proposal to the government health representative in the state and city to recommend measures to enhance the delivery of care to minority groups.
