Advanced registered nurses work in highly collaborative environments and must collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in order to provide excellent patient care. Besides knowing the role and scope of one’s own practice, it is essential to understand the role and scope of other nurse specialties to ensure effective collaboration among nurses, the organization, and other professionals with whom advanced registered nurses regularly interact.
To differentiate how advanced registered nurse responsibilities link to and interact with different areas of nursing practice, use the “Nursing Roles Graphic Organizer Template.” Contrast your prospective position with one of the following: Nurse educator; nurse leader; family nurse practitioner; acute care nurse practitioner; graduate nurse with an emphasis/specialty in public health, health care administration, business, or informatics; clinical nurse specialist; and doctor of nursing practice are all examples of nursing professionals. Indicate the roles you are comparing in the corresponding columns on the template. Use the “Nursing Roles Graphic Organizer Template” to see how the responsibilities of an advanced registered nurse connect to and interact with different parts of nursing practice. Compare your potential position with one of these: Nursing professionals include the nurse educator, the nurse leader, the family nurse practitioner, the acute care nurse practitioner, the graduate nurse with a focus or specialty in public health, health care administration, business, or informatics, the clinical nurse specialist, and the doctor of nursing practice. Put the roles you want to compare in the columns that go with them on the template.
