NURS 6053 Week 7 Assignment 1 Essay Sample Paper
All interactions with other people require good communication skills. Every day, nurses talk with many different kinds of people. A recent event at work shows how communication can go wrong. As a diabetes educator, most days can be very busy when you work in a hospital with more than 600 beds. Each educator in the hospital is in charge of a certain unit and takes care of the consults that come in. When a teacher is absent or sick, it is up to the rest of the staff to help cover for them. While a teacher was on vacation recently, she got several consults on her assigned units. All of the units were also very busy, so the coordinator couldn’t get in touch with the units to tell them where to send the new consults. She “assumed” that the rest of the teachers would just pick their own classes without being told to. In the past, we were told not to “just assign” ourselves to patients on other units, so we waited until we were told what to do. We were busy seeing patients on our own units, so these “unassigned” patients had to wait to be seen, which meant that some discharges had to be put off.
Problems with communication and other problems
In this case, the biggest problem was that the coordinator’s past instructions and current expectations were not the same. Also, the coordinator sends most of his or her messages during the day through text messages. This suggests a different barrier, since I won’t look at a text message while I’m teaching a patient something. This means that I might not see a message for 30 minutes or longer, which delays the care of a different patient. When you write or type something, there is also a chance that the message will be misunderstood.
There are no verbal or nonverbal cues that can be used to figure out the climate or tone of a message (Marquis & Huston, 2017).
Strategies for Getting Better
First, I think that the best way to communicate with an educator about a patient is to talk to them. Leaders who use assertive communication can reduce stress and boost productivity while giving their employees a sense of purpose, direction, and identity (Johansson, Miller, & Hamrin, 2014). Assertive communication requires that verbal and nonverbal cues match, which makes it less likely that the message will be misunderstood (Marquis & Huston, 2017). Second, I think that a specific protocol should be made to deal with the situation of unit coverage when teachers aren’t at work. If there was a protocol, there would be less uncertainty about what to do and better care for the patient.
Manojlovich et al. (2015) say that bad communication is the main reason why bad things happen in hospitals that could have been prevented. It is very important that the person sending the message and the person receiving it both see and understand the same thing.

NURS 6053 Week 9 Assignment: Workplace Environment Assessment
Clearly, diagnosis is a critical aspect of healthcare. However, the ultimate purpose of a diagnosis is the development and application of a series of treatments or protocols. Isolated recognition of a health issue does little to resolve it.

In this Portfolio Assignment, you will continue to analyze the results and apply published research to the development of a proposed treatment for any issues uncovered by the assessment.
To Prepare:
Review the Resources and examine the Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory, found on page 20 of Clark (2015).
Review the Work Environment Assessment Template.
Reflect on the output of your Discussion post regarding your Assessment of workplace civility and the feedback received from colleagues.

NURS6053/NRSE6053 Week 11 Assignment
Change Implementation and Management Plan
It is one of the most cliché of clichés, but it nevertheless rings true: The only constant is change. As a nursing professional, you are no doubt aware that success in the healthcare field requires the ability to adapt to change, as the pace of change in healthcare may be without rival.
As a professional, you will be called upon to share expertise, inform, educate, and advocate. Your efforts in these areas can help lead others through change. In this Assignment, you will propose a change within your organization and present a comprehensive plan to implement the change you propose.
To Prepare:
Review the Resources and identify one change that you believe is called for in your organization/workplace.
This may be a change necessary to effectively address one or more of the issues you addressed in the Workplace Environment Assessment you submitted in Module 4. It may also be a change in response to something not addressed in your previous efforts. It may be beneficial to discuss your ideas with your organizational leadership and/or colleagues to help identify and vet these ideas.
Reflect on how you might implement this change and how you might communicate this change to organizational leadership.
The Assignment (5-6-minute PowerPoint presentation):
Change Implementation and Management Plan
Create a narrated PowerPoint presentation of 5 or 6 slides with video that presents a comprehensive plan to implement the change you propose.
Your presentation should be 5–6 minutes in length and should include a video with you as presenter.
Your Change Implementation and Management Plan should include the following:
An executive summary of the issues that are currently affecting your organization/workplace (This can include the work you completed in your Workplace Environment Assessment previously submitted, if relevant.)
A description of the change being proposed
Justifications for the change, including why addressing it will have a positive impact on your organization/workplace
Details about the type and scope of the proposed change
Identification of the stakeholders impacted by the change
Identification of a change management team (by title/role)
A plan for communicating the change you propose
A description of risk mitigation plans you would recommend to address the risks anticipated by the change you propose.
