Situated on the south facet of Hong Kong Island, on 879,000 sq. meters of land on each side of Brick Hill (Nam Lengthy Shan), Ocean Park was Hong Kong’s dwelling grown marine theme park [see Exhibit 1]. Opened in 1977, building of the Park was funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Membership on a web site granted by the Hong Kong Authorities at a nominal premium. 2 Till 30 June 1987, Ocean Park had operated as a subsidiary of the Hong Kong Jockey Membership.
On 1 July 1987, the Park turned a not-for-profit group, managed by Ocean Park Company (OPC) included below the Ocean Park Ordinance. The mandate of OPC, stipulated by the Ordinance, was to handle Ocean Park as a public leisure and academic park and to develop Ocean Park for functions of recreation or schooling [see Exhibit 2]. 30 years after it first opened its gates to the general public, Ocean Park had established itself as a significant vacationer attraction in Hong Kong endeared by vacationers and locals alike [see Exhibit 3]. The mission of the Park was to supply visitors with memorable experiences that mixed leisure and schooling, whereas inspiring life lengthy studying and conservation, on a self financed foundation. Every year, about 30,000 faculty kids in Hong Kong visited the Park to study animals. In 2001, the Park’s analysis and conservation efforts on marine mammals and synthetic insemination delivered two of the world’s first artificially conceived dolphin calves. A male and a feminine native bred bottlenose dolphin have been residing with their dad and mom within the Park’s Dolphin College.
