Basically, some of the factors that researchers must consider include :
1)Surface resolvability ;Basically, this smallest resolvable surface area of an object ,as seen through an optical telescope .It is expressed as :

Where ,λ represents the wavelength and R represents the resolving power of the telescope.
2)Angular resolution; considering the aperture of the of lens is vital ,this is because, will highly affect the angular resolution of an optical telescope .This is expressed as

In this case αR would represent resolution limit while D is the aperture.
3) Focal length and focal ratio-focal length is the measure of how strongly the system converges or diverges light, while focal ratio is the focal length f of an objective divided by the diameter D.

N denotes the focal ratio
4)Light gathering power ;also refers to the aperture gain is the ability of the telescope to collect a lot more light than a human eye .Light gathering power can be compared between telescopes by comparing the areas A of the two different apertures.
5) Magnification; Magnification magnifies a viewing objects while limiting the FOV :Its usually expressed as
M=f/f_e
Where M expresses the magnification while f is the focal length and f_e
expresses the eyepiece focal length.

Spectral observations that the astronomers are unable to perform includes:
Field of view ,basically field of view is the extent of the observable world seen at any given moment through the telescope .A physical limit derives from the combination where the FOV cannot be viewed larger than defined maximum due to diffraction of the optics.
Another spectral observation includes apparent ,in this case apparent FOV is the observed through an ocular eyepiece without insertion into a telescope. Apparent is always limited by the barrel size used in a telescope.

Can you think of any other areas(medicine ,science , defense industry ,etc)where differences in detector spectral response must also be taken into consideration.
ANSWER
Normally in medicine world ,spectral response is applied in determining the different characteristics of photo pigments in cone cells and rode cells .Rod cells basically are more suited to scotopic vision and cone cells are photopic vision and they differ in their sensitivity to different wavelength of light(Steven H.Schwartz,2004).
In conclusion difference in detector spectral can be applied in relative spectral response of land imager in land management: in this case the spectral measurements are made to determine the spectral changes.
