Title: Fact Sheet on Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA)
Introduction:
The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) is a healthcare policy that aims to shift the focus of healthcare providers from fee-for-service to value-based care. MACRA was signed into law in 2015 and introduced a new payment model, the Quality Payment Program (QPP), that is aimed at improving the quality of care delivered to patients.
Impact of MACRA on system implementation:
The QPP under MACRA has made it mandatory for healthcare providers to use certified electronic health record technology (CEHRT) to ensure the accurate capture of patient data. This requirement has led to a significant increase in the adoption and implementation of health information technology systems. Healthcare organizations have had to invest in CEHRT to remain compliant with MACRA, resulting in changes to their IT infrastructure and workflows.
Impact of MACRA on clinical care, patient/provider interactions, and workflow:
The QPP under MACRA has incentivized healthcare providers to focus on providing high-quality care to patients. This focus has led to an increase in patient-centered care, resulting in improved patient outcomes. Additionally, the use of CEHRT has led to increased communication and collaboration among healthcare providers, leading to improved patient/provider interactions. The implementation of MACRA has also resulted in changes to workflow, as healthcare providers have had to adapt to new documentation and reporting requirements.
Organizational policies and procedures in place:
Our healthcare organization has implemented policies and procedures to ensure compliance with MACRA. We have invested in CEHRT and provided training to our staff to ensure proper use and documentation. We have also implemented processes to monitor and report quality measures as required by the QPP under MACRA.
