Public Policy
Criminal Justice: gun control
Public policy involves the laws, either local government ordinances or statutes passed by legislative bodies, including the gun policy. America suffers a grievous injury, and people lose their family members and friends every year in incidents that involve gun violence. More than thirty-nine thousand seven hundred people have died from wounds caused by gunshot in the united states in recent years. People that live in the united states are usually seven times more likely to die through homicide than people living in other wealthy countries, specifically gun homicide. Mass shootings occur regularly, which capture too much attention. The black community has also been aa target by the police, and cases are being reported now and then.
The gun owners, gun-rights advocates, and society believe that this level of violence should not be tolerated. The problem comes in when there is a disagreement about what needs to be done in reducing the harm caused by gun violence. One of the disagreements involves the real effects of various gun laws and regulations. In general, the gun policies on a variety of outcomes is a question. The initiative of gun policy is created to give the most information that is objective on the known and the unknown about the gun laws effects in creating resources and tools used in improving the research quality in gun violence and improve the national debate to devevelop effective gun policies.
Gun policy views split between political and partisan lines. This division could be due to differing values that concern the goals and outcomes that are the most important (Gabor, 2016). For instance, protection of personal liberties or community violence reduction. There have been disagreements between the experts that favor the Policy Positions of the National Rifle Association and those favoring the Brady campaign’s policy positions in preventing gun violence. They don’t come from different views about the objectives aimed to be achieved by gun policies.
These two groups go for policies that are believed in reduction of gun violence. However, one of them relies on the elimination of zones that are gun-free, for example, will help in accomplishing the objective. The other group believes that this kind of policy will have the opposite effect. The disagreement portrayed is about facts and not values or objectives. Identifying the real effects of gun laws could be difficult using the research and data methods available. Due to the congressional appropriations language or rather the Dickey Amendment, that keeps being renewed since it was introduced in 1996.
One of the theories involved in political theory which is under the study of social sciences. Political theory shows concern with the demands of Justice and how it should be fulfilled, the promise of democracy, and the presuppositions (Sabine & Thorson, 2018). the implementation stage of this policy is where the decisions that bring about change in addressing a public problem. Different government agencies are involved in implementing policy decisions. They help translate statutory language into actionable regulations that achieve the policy’s objectives in the legislation.
The civil servants conduct the rulemaking and are employed by the government agencies. These are experts working for the government but not given jobs because of political affiliation, although they demonstrate competence in a specific area. The other agencies include the federal level, local level and state level. In Comparing the elite theory to the political theory, the elite theory consists of members of the economic elite and policy-planning networks who hold the most power. The power held is independent of the democratic elections (Pakulski, 2018). In political theory, communism was an important focus in the early years. It then led to colonialism and racism, which affects us up to date. Racism has led to gun violence, where black people have been shot when unarmed.
In sociology and political science, the elite theory describes the power relationships in society. In contrast, the political theory discusses liberty, politics, Justice, property, law, rights and law enforcement by the authority. Implementation of these two theories is the same, and they are designed to achieve specific goals and find solutions to societal problems (Fischer & Miller, 2017). In other terms, the theories describe the regulations, laws, decisions and ruling made by the government. The public policies are the political system outputs that come along in different forms in terms of these laws, rules and regulations.
Once the government has identified a public problem, the state then intervenes. In this case, gun violence is covered under political theory. Executives and legislators will give it special attention. The public issues are chosen according to the attention they bring. The factors determining whether an issue becomes a plan could be cultural, social, political, ideological or economic. Therefore, the disadvantaged groups have to expand their scope of the conflict to access the list. The different types of political theories include anarchism, communism, conservatism, absolutism, liberalism, and nationalism.
