FORUM #5:
Question 1: In the Gestalt Therapy Self-Inventory, I marked the statement “I often suppress my feelings” as “Strongly Disagree.” This is because I believe in expressing and acknowledging my emotions. I marked 12 statements as “Strongly Agree,” which indicates my alignment with this theory’s principles. This tells me that Gestalt Therapy could be a good fit for me as a counseling theory of choice.
Question 2: One aspect of unfinished business in my life is not fully addressing past conflicts with a close friend. I believe this may affect my work as a counselor because unresolved issues can create emotional blocks that may interfere with my ability to be fully present and empathetic with clients. The Gestalt technique of “empty chair” could be useful in my work with clients who have unfinished business, as it allows individuals to communicate with and gain closure from a person or situation that is no longer present.
