Review your Clinical Skills Self-Assessment Form you submitted last week and think about areas for which you would like to gain application-level experience and/or continued growth as an advanced practice nurse. How can your experiences in the practicum help you achieve these aims?
Review the information related to developing objectives provided in this week’s Learning Resources. Your practicum learning objectives that you want to achieve during your practicum experience must be:
Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Results-focused, Time-bound.
Reflective of the higher-order domains of Bloom’s taxonomy (i.e., application level and above)
Note: Please make sure your objectives are individualized and outlined in your Practicum Experience Plan (PEP). While you may add previous objectives to continue to work toward. You must have 3 new objectives for each class, each quarter.
Discuss your professional aims and your proposed practicum objectives with your Preceptor to ascertain if the necessary resources are available at your practicum site.
Select one nursing theory and one counseling/psychotherapy theory to best guide your clinical practice. Explain why you selected these theories. Support your approach with evidence-based literature.
Create a timeline of practicum activities that demonstrates how you plan to meet these goals and objectives based on your practicum requirements.
THE main Assignment
POST : Record the required information in each area of the Practicum Experience Plan template, including 3–4 measurable practicum learning objectives you will use to facilitate your learning during the practicum experience.

Some of the key experiences I have had that are relevant include:
Working directly with patients in a clinical setting to assess needs, develop care plans, and evaluate outcomes. This has given me valuable experience applying my nursing knowledge and skills in real-world patient care scenarios.
Leading interdisciplinary care teams to coordinate treatment for complex patients. This has helped strengthen my abilities around communication, collaboration, and leadership at the application level.
Participating in continuing education opportunities such as conferences and seminars to expand my knowledge of evidence-based practices and emerging issues in my specialty area. Staying current will be important for my ongoing growth.
Precepting and mentoring other nurses to promote excellence in care and develop my coaching/teaching skills. Guiding others supports higher-level learning and leadership development.
In my practicum, I aim to build upon these experiences. Some measurable objectives I propose are:
Directly manage care for 5 complex patients, conducting comprehensive assessments, developing specialized treatment plans, and evaluating clinical outcomes.
Lead interdisciplinary rounds for 3 patient cases, coordinating care across specialties and facilitating communication to optimize results.
Complete 15 hours of continuing education to expand my knowledge in priority areas like chronic disease management and health promotion strategies.
Precept 2 nurses and conduct performance Assessments to strengthen my mentoring approach.
With support from my preceptor, I believe these objectives are attainable at my site given their focus on complex patients and emphasis on collaborative care models. Regular meetings will allow me to demonstrate progress through case reviews, participation in rounds and committees, and documentation of continuing education and precepting activities. Please let me know if you need any additional information or have suggestions to strengthen my plan. I appreciate you taking the time to ensure I am fully preparing for a rewarding practicum experience.
