Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Vs Microsoft Surface Book 2 15-Inch
Advancement in technology has seen computing devices development evolving in terms of specs. This paper provides a comparison of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 and Microsoft Surface Book 2 15-Inch. The parameters evaluated in both devices to develop the comparison include clock speed, number of cores, the RAM size, and cache memory.
The clock speed is the speed of the Central Processing Unit (CPU) or the processor of the device in interpreting and executing instructions contained in the software application. High clock speed is important to the device since it plays an important role in the ability of the device to respond to requests and process the request. The device with high clock speed will also have the ability to hold more software applications and run them multiply without the device hanging or delay the response time. Since the clock is directly associated with the processor, the device with a high processor will contain a higher clock speed (Device Specification, 2020). The Microsoft Surface Book 2 15-Inch’s processor is the 8th Gen Intel ® Core™ i7-8650U quad-core processor, 4.2GHz Max Turbo, while the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 processor is Single-Core 2.84GHz & Triple-Core 2.41GHz & Quad-Core 1.78GHz (SamMobile, 2020). Therefore the clock speed for Microsoft Surface Book 2 15-Inch 4.2GHz Max is higher than that of Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, which is 2.41GHz Max. Individuals choosing between the two devices based on the ability to host many applications and being able to interpret and execute software applications faster would end up picking for Microsoft Surface Book 2 15-Inch due to its high clock speed.
Another parameter being compared between the two devices is the number of cores in the device CPU unit. The CPU core is the processor unit that executes software instructions. There are several types of the CPU core, including the single-core processors, dual-core, quad-core, hexa-core, octa-core, and other multi-core processors. The cores in the device help in increasing the device’s ability to execute multiple instructions in parallel (Device Specification, 2020). The devices with a high number of cores will have high-performance ability. Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 contains an octa-core, which means it has eight cores, whereas Microsoft Surface Book 2 15-Inch is conations hexa-core, with six cores (Howse, 2017). Therefore, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 device will have high performance in terms of executing multiple instructions in parallel than Microsoft Surface Book 2 15-Inch since it has a high number of cores.
The Random-Access Memory (RAM) parameter of the device is used by the operating system or applications installed in the device for functioning. High device RAM is associated with the ability of the operating system of the device to operate to the maximum and the ability of the device to support the installation of applications and there running. Therefore, a device with a high RAM will perform better than those with lower RAM. Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 device has a RAM of 6 GB (gigabytes) with others having a RAM of 8 GB (gigabytes). The RAM for Microsoft Surface Book 2 15-Inch device is 16 GB making the device the better choice for running installed applications. Cache memory acts as a buffer between the RAM and the CPU and helps in reducing the average time to access data from the main memory. High cache memory increases the performance ability of the device (GeeksforGeeks, 2020). Microsoft Surface Book 2 15-Inch has more than 744GB of cache memory than Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, which has 256GB compared to 1000GB of Microsoft Surface Book 2 15-Inch.
