Sexuality is not a state of health that is expected only in the young. It is also a healthy reaction for the elderly. In this discussion, you will be examining your own reaction to the topic of elderly adults having sexual urges, and analyzing your degree of ageism. Frequently when we think of elderly people, we think of those older adults that we already know, but thinking of loved ones having sex is usually uncomfortable for most. Consider in this discussion:

When we think of elderly people, we normally think of individuals we know, yet the thought of loved ones having sex is usually unsettling for most people. Consider the following points in this discussion: -Explain your level of comfort/discomfort with the idea of elderly persons being sexual beings.
-Identify if your attitudes are a form of ageism.
-Describe how you deal with this comfort/discomfort.
-List the steps you can take to improve your comfort level when anticipating or dealing with older adults’ sexuality. –Explain one idea that you researched in the literature outside of your textbook that can help you care comfortably for elderly patients who are sexually active, yet live in a long-term care facility for dementia.
